I spent Australia Day (January 26) playing my brazilian samba drum at a festival in Penrith a country town just outside of Sydney.
When we play our drumming gigs, we are usually accompanied by very sexy dancers who have beautiful samba dance moves...
...and aren't wearing much clothes (it's hot in Brazil you know!).
Lots of colourful costumes. They actually seem to be wearing more on their heads than the rest of their bodies.
The guy in the center is our SambaFrog drum leader, Jean Stora. He plays the rapinique, a high pitched drum that we all follow when we play.
Esoozie to the left is playing the surdo, which makes the deepest brazilian drum beats.
Over here we've got Michael on the surdo as well, and Rana and Geoff on the snares.
Graham on the tamborim (not to be confused with the tambourine) and Edgee's bro on yet another surdo. We love big beats !
Here I am (with Ana and Graham) having a blast playing the Tambourim.
As you can see... I'm still working on my samba costume...
... but I'm still having fun !
In addition to the dancers, we also often have capoweira dancers (brazilian dance influenced by martial arts) that have lots of kick moves.
And flips.
In fact, they seem to like being upside down more than right side up.
And the guys very often forget to bring their shirts... so it's a great show for both guys and gals !
