CAMPING PACKING GUIDE
With the camping I've done here and there, I've picked up (and invented) a few tricks along the way. As a reminder for myself, as well as a way to help others not make the same mistakes I've made, below is a handy camping packing checklist.
Accomodation Basics :
- Tent
- Sleeping Bag
- Foam or Air Mattress (Foam is better, esp for more than 1 person and is warmer)
- Pillow
- Night Lamp for the Tent
Fire-Making Basics :
- Firestarter
- Kindle and Newspapers
- Firewood
- Matches and/or lighter
- Grill to put over the fire (optional)
Food-making Basics :
- Stove with extra gas
- Deep pot for boiling water / soup / etc
- Frying pan
- Laddle
- Plates & Bowls
- Set of a fork, knife, spoon
- Collapsible cup
- Water container (for storing 2L and dispensing water to drink)
- Skewers for marshmellows and snags (natural alternative : sticks)
- Picnic Blanket or Table with Chairs
- Can opener
- Biodegradable Soap for washing dishes
- Washing and drying cloths (for dishes)
Food Basics :
- Sausages and hotdog buns
- Steaks
- Cans of beans
- Toast & Jams / Peanut Butter / Butter / Honey
- Fruit
- Instant Oatmeal
- Oil & Condiments (Salt, Pepper, Tomato Sauce)
- Red wine & Cups
- Tea / Coffee / Hot chocolate (plus sugar and milk)
- Smores (Cookies, chocolate, marshmellows and aluminium foil)
- 1 Bottle of water (again, b/c you never know when you'll need it)
Clothing :
- 1 Pair of Pyjamas (match expected night weather)
- 1 Towel and/or Sarong
- 1 Bathing Suit (Optional)
- 1 Jacket -- Fleece is very handy here and can double as a sweater at night or even a pillow
- Undergarments (7 underwear, 2 bras, 2-3 pairs of socks)
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 2 pairs of pants
- 2 short sleeve shirts
- 2 long sleeve shirts / sweaters
- 1 Pair of Hiking Shoes
- A hat or headband
Hygiene :
- Toothbrush & Toothpaste
- Shampoo, Conditioner & Liquid Soap
- Hair Brush or Comb
- Hair Gel & Hair Ties
- Eye Glasses / Contact Lenses & Solution
- Nail Clippers
- Shaving Kit
- Antipersperant / Deodorant
Medical Kit :
- Liquid Hand Sanitizer (to keep your hands clean when you don't have access to clean water)
- A Kleenex pack
- Sunscreen / Lotion
- Band aids
- Advil / Tylenol
- Immodium
- Sleeping pills (if you have trouble sleeping)
- First Aid Kit
Other Stuff :
- A flashlight (Headlamp is the best option)
- Clothing wire (to dry bathing suits, rained out clothing, etc)
- Utility Knife
- Bug Spray and mosquito net (where needed)
- Compact umbrella
- Camera & 1 Extra Camera Battery (!!)
- Sunglasses
- 1-2 Books for Reading on the Plane
- Compass (very handy!)
- Alarm clock (if needing to get up early)
- Sewing Kit
- Music Player + Extra Batteries
