Welcome to Winnipeg's Winter Voyageurs Festival, which features terrific ice sculptures (as you can see), igloos, huts, etc.!
Here's one of the teepee huts now! (That's Sean, a great friend of mine whom I was visiting.)
Here we are making bannock (a mix of lard and flour friend in butter. It tastes even better than scones -- yum! I had it before when I went camping in one of the Canadian Parks (some of them have educational session to teach you about the traditions or cultures of the area).
At this festival, you go from hut to hut to see the different aspects of pioneer life in the 1800s.
Here's Sean in an igloo. Surprisingly, it was pretty warm in there!
Here's a little pioneer girl... making candles.
An interesting monument (a large archway) in Winnipeg (in the cemetary).
I love pancake houses!! This one is in Winnipeg... it serves absolutely massive and delicious pancakes... a must visit for breakfast if you're in town!
Winnipeg also has a conservation park neary called Fort Whyte... which features lots of hiking trails, bird watching stations, deer feeding areas, and...
ROAMING BUFFALOS!!! First time I had ever seen them!
This is what I call a bird condo! (Fort Whyte)
This is one of my favourite memories from Winnipeg -- getting lost in a corn maze! It was so much fun!! I think there was ten acres of corn to go through -- we were there for 2 whole hours, and only were able to find four of the six stamping stations! (September)
