We enjoyed these sea lion on land just as much as in the water. It was easy to take some pictures because most of the time, they were just lying on the beach warming up (and getting the nitrogen out of their system from their own deep water "diving" activities!).
This is a good example of many of the beaches that we saw... swarming with sea lions. It makes me think of the carribbean with all of their beach bums!
A little baby sea lion stretches next to its sleeping family.
And mostly you could get pretty close to them without bothering them!
The youngins especially were curious in the water and out!
And it seemed they could sleep just about anywhere!!
Driving around in our little dhinghy boat, the curious sea lions often jumped in the water to swim by the boat and get a closer look at us!
Here is an old male... tall and proud. Our guide told us that they often stretch like this to help them get the nitrogen out faster!
Or to display territory ownership. Sometimes when we stood to close to the sea lions, they or their mothers would bark at us!
Two males are showing off and barking at each other, fighting for territory and their females.
More beach activity with lots of sea lions pups walking around.
But for all that activity, most of the time is spent sleeping...
...with a yawn or a cough (coughing up fishbones) now and then!
A sea lion pup with another family member.
Two sea lions sleeping face to face... I couldn't help taking this romantic picture.
...or this one! A romantic honeymoon!
...baby and mother!
All I'm going to say about this one is I'm not sure if she is or isn't enjoying this!
I look at this picture of a mother and her pup and can't help but picture the following conversation: "Didn't I tell you to pick up your toys!?"
A last picture of a snoozing sea lion... doing what they do best!
Onward to iguanas and lizards! Here are a marine iguana (large black) and a lava lizard (tiny brown) gathering their energy through soaking in the sun on the rocks.
