A classic cruiseship picture... no I was not on a cruise ship, but felt I had to take a picture of this cruise-brochure-perfect scene. Plus, cruise ships are such a normal sight from the island that IT IS ALWAYS part of the background.
Lots of pirate statues adorn the entrance of rum cake and tacky souvenir shops.
Farmarz and Sarah took me on a relaxing catamaran evening cruise.
On Seven Mile Beach, we enjoyed some lazy downtime in the sun... but not for long, we had great fun renting a Jetski for 1/2 hour (it was my first time, the waters were rough and we only fell once! What a blast!)
Seven Mile Beach
Note the "Grand Canada" sign -- There are tons of Canadian who live on Grand Cayman.
Some interesting plants inhabit the island -- these reminded me of snakes.
This plant is beautiful on its own as its leaves grow unfurling (is that even a word?).
To my great enjoyment, cute frogs enjoyed hanging out on ledges just outside of Faramarz' apartment.
Close-up of a tree frog (notice the rounded finger ends).
Bought a disposable underwater camera and was impressed with the picture quality that emerged!
A variety of coral and plant-like underwater animals cover the sandy bottom.
Our guides at Stingray city teased a Moray Eel with some squid to make it come out and play (they ended up giving the suspicious eel more squid than it gave us playtime).
The green moray eel. Don't get too close to it or it will bite!
Stingray city, where you can watch stingray flutter magically by you only a few feet away (sometimes even brushing by you if you are lucky).
There were quite a few stingrays in this 4 foot deep sand bar.
Stingrays often look like birds and actually have winglike appendages that help them move through the water so gracefully.
Stingray city was crowded with tourists, but the domesticated stingrays were friendly and happy for the "free" food.
Sometimes you would have a whole family of stingrays swim by you at once.
Guides would easily draw the stingrays into their arms by offering them squid pieces.
Hungry but much more shy Puffer-like Trunkfish also inhabited Stingray City (this was also one of my favourite types of fish due to their funny shape and behaviours).
