In Morelia (Michoacan), we found this lovely plaza (Plaza de Valladolid) near our hostel where there was a set of cultural dance taking place.
This piece includes a serpent dance (which I liken to the Chinese dragon dances) where the first dancer in a long chain of dancers had a serpent's mask and the last one had a rattlesnake tail. The dance consists of two warriors who undertake the slaying of the serpent beast. Check out the movie I took to get a full appreciation of the music and dance (the link is located under the thumbnails on the bottom left side of the page).
These ladies had their long hair spun around scarves to make an impressive and colourful crown for their dance.
An evening stroll along the main street in Morelia.
The Church in the Plaza de Valladolid in Morelia at night.
The inside of the church.
Mexicans are big fans of murals -- In the court of justice in Morelia lies this mural of this revolutionary historical character who helped to push forward the juridicial system in Mexico.
Mexicans are also fans of parks, but rarely will you find huge parks like this in Mexico with so much green space (they are usually covered in cement walkways).
The main zocalo (square) in Morelia has these odd looking geometrically trimmed trees to add a little distinction and style to the square.
I like this mosaic mural of the zapatista guerrillas from the southern states who fought for the rights of their fellow countrymen and countrywomen next another town's square.
Another unique decoration style for the inside of a church in a small town near Patzcuaro Lake.
Morelia is also well known for its picturesque aquaduct.
