Taxco is a beautiful little town near Mexico. It is also pretty hilly and great for excercise - hehe!
As you can see there is a statue of Jesus at the top of the hill overlooking the town.
A close up of the statue.
Seen from up high, the town with its old cathedral is beautiful!
Here is the front of the cathedral.
And the inside -- very ornate and those pink brick walls make it distinctive.
One of the lovely picturesque alleyways that the town is full of -- you can easily get lost in this town!
A beautiful rooftop surrounded by bright red flowers.
There are TONS of Volkswagon Beetles everywhere in Mexico -- this picture gives you a taste of it!
It is incredible what the forces of nature can do -- Just look at this tree which managed to survive and live well against all odds, on the side of this cliff! This should be a reminder to us all on our ability to succeed in even the most daunting situation. Ok, motivation speech is over.
Near Taxco, we went to see the Cacahuamilpa Caves that we heard were pretty impressive. Let's just say that was an understatement -- these caves were the biggest I had ever seen (the chambers are 82m high). You can only visit them with a tour guide (for a two hour tour!) and your path is lighted all the way by tiny lights along the walkway.
Here are some of the stalagmites that formed over millions of years. Unfortunately, half the tour consisted of a description of hidden images within the stalactites and stalagmites (ie. "Over there you can see the shape of Elvis").
