Perth is a great small city of 1.5 million... with lots of perks that small cities don't always have. Like this cool train system, which has over 5 or 7 different lines.
Downtown Perth -- Tons of shopping available to those big brand lovers and a nice pedestrian walkway for those who prefer the less expensive passtime, window shopping.
Australians are the only citizens who eat the two animals on their country's coat of arms (the kangaroo and the emu). I haven't tried either yet, but I'm sure it won't take too long for them to land on my plate.
Australia is a sports loving country... and what better proof than a "Be Active" Expo which featured all sorts of sports available around the city in the downtown area. I can't remember the last time we had that in Toronto, or maybe I haven't been paying attention.
Perth's City Hall -- The brick looks new, but the building style makes you feel like it's been there for ages.
Nice juxtaposition of old world and new world Perth.
Surf shops are EVERYWHERE in Perth and Sydney... it seems there's at least one every few blocks.
Inheriting the paranoia from their cousins in Britain, Australians are keen to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour or item in the trains and public areas. They don't even have any garbage cans in the train stations nor any recycling bins in the streets.
These were some pretty strange cactus flowers that I found near my friend Malcolm's house.
I went to the zoo with Malcolm and his two nieces, Hannah and Isobel. Saw this cool looking treefrog.
Hannah and Isobel showing me what kangaroos look like.
Here's one!... Looking like he just woke up, still trying to open his eyes.
Seems like they like lounging around quite a bit. These guys spent a lot of time rolling around and looking bored.
Looks like someone decided to roll over and go back to sleep.
Boab trees (from the baobab line) have odd but beautiful shapes and smooth bark.
Western Australia's Official State Animal, the Nimbut (??) looks and acts an awfully lot like a painted squirrel to me.
Here is the true Tasmanian Devil... not quite the funny looking creature you saw in Bugs Bunny cartoons, eh?
Another angle of the tasmanian devil. He looks a little like a wild pig in this picture, but do know that he is an animal not to be messed with. It has sharp teeth and is ridiculously strong.
We had fun jumping up and down on this springy bridge. We did our best to help tire the kiddies out.
