You can actually see Perth's skyline off in the distance from one of the beachfronts.
There are two lighthouses on Rottnest island. One in the north and one right in the center of the island on top of a great hill. Guess which one I biked up to?
By the time I made it to the top of the hill with my push bike (and after a full morning full of riding my bike up and down the hilly landscape), there was no way I was going to climb all the stairs to see the view from the top. I'll take a bus there next time. ;c)
I took this picture for all of you people out there who like factoids and bits of interesting information that aren't really practical but make for good conversation.
Quokkas. Rottnest Island got its name from these little guys. The netherlanders thought they were rats. Turns out these quokkas now only live in a few parts of australia. They aren't really good at defending themselves, which probably explains why they have managed to survive only in australian zones free of predators.
Part kangaroo, part rat, quokkas hop around searching for food and aren't too skittish at all.
This one was practically begging for my lunch! Of course, he didn't get any of it! Only puppy dog eyes work on me. :c)
Another lunch nemesis to watch out for. These guys look innocent enough, that is until you look away. Then, whammo! Where did your fries go!? Mothers, keep an eye on your children!
Hooray, recycling bins. The only place I've seen them in non residential areas in Australia so far. Funnily enough, I can't seem to find the paper recycling bins anywhere.
