Bare Island, previously a fort, is a lovely picnic spot located at the peninsula of Botany Bay (South Sydney).
Like Sydney, the island sits on a base of sandstone...
...with wonderful pockets of patterns and colours.
Small pools of water appear everywhere as erosion has taken its toll on the rocky surface over the years.
Some holes are larger and contain water regularly to allow for small ecosystems to develop within.
And others are also good at providing hiding spots for the occasional crab.
The view under the walking bridge that connects the mainland to the island.
Some amazing patterns in the rock.
