We went to the Australian Reptile Park near Gosford, about 1 1/2 hours north of Sydney.
A surprise to us all, there were tons of free roaming Kangaroos and Emus at the park so it felt much more like a zoo than a reptile park.
You could actually go right up to the kangaroos, but as kangaroos can be very aggressive, you need to be careful and not aggravate them.
When kangaroos fight each other, they sit on their tails and kick each other with their feet or scratch each other with the sharp nails on their hands.
Kangaroos have funny toes...two small ones and one really big one. As you can see, their feet are really long too.
This one in particular was curious.
So I got lots of shots of him.
And some silly shots too. ;c)
Kangaroos always seem to have a disinterested, curious or confused facial expression.
They come right up to you in this park since they are used to being fed with zoo-provided food.
Though sometimes the camera distracts them momentarily. "What's that beeping noise? Is it more food?"
Hand feeding kangaroos here, just like hand feeding horses, sheep and goats in Canada.
Emus, cousins of the ostrich. Emus can also be very aggressive. These are very big and powerful birds. And with that beak, I wouldn't recommend hand feeding them. :c)
A dingo!... they look just like friendly domestic dogs don't they? Don't let them near your baby though!
Funny signs at the Australian Reptile Park. I selfishly kept my fingers to myself.
This is a massive galapagos tortoise. Check out the video to see him eat and walk.
Doesn't quite look like the Tasmanian Devil on Bugs Bunny, but it is just as vicious.
We watched this snake show -- very informative and they showed some beautiful snakes, lizards and a domesticated crocodile.
