To celebrate the anniversary of my 1st year living in Australia, my roomate Ange and I decided to throw an Oz themed party. Of course, we therefore had to dress up the place with salties (crocs) in the esky (cooler).
And made sure my koala made a presence in the backyard trees.
As for food, we had all the aussie classics. Everything from beetroot dip, to vegemite sandwiches (they were popular), fairy bread (white bread with butter and candy sprinkles -- also really popular), timtam cookies, a pavlova roll (thanks Ben!), ...
... and of course aussie beer, "Tooheys New" !!
An altar to Vegemite was also seriously established. ;c)
Ange dressed up as a "grey nurse shark" -- I thought her costume was amazingly creative.
Do sharks often lurk with beer?
Ooh, good shark growl. Ange is showing her pearly whites here!
We also had a "Wing Defence Netball player" with tight shorts (net ball is an incredibly popular game here in Australia).
Ange's sister, Ali, dressed up as a lamington (an australian chocolate sponge cake with coconut, which I mistakenly called a padington at first). I think creativity truly runs in Ange's family.
Anthony (Ali's boyfriend) dressed up as a Jackaroo and Andrew the winger was full of character in his wing defense role.
Jeremy dressed up as Captain Cook. Here's Jeremy standing next to his dedicated aussie rhyming slang "Go and have a captain cook", which rhymes with "Go and have a look".
Aussies really have a thing about rhyming slang. As another example, aussies often say "I'm going to hit the frog and toad" when they're going to "hit the road".
Jeremy and his brother Matt swapping hats... and possibly characters... and maybe even drinks. ;c) It looks like they are having lots of fun !
Jeremy doesn't seem to be too phased by the jellyfish tentacle around his neck. He's looking very official in his costume.
The samba frogs came over to shake things up at the party. Left to right : Ana, Gabrielle, Jean and Esoozie !
Ange, myself (yep, that's a jellyfish costume, not just a painted lampshade), Captain Cook Jeremy, Jillaroo Urara and "Aussie Bruce" Geoff.
Nice group photo... with the usual shark attack episode (imagine jaws music) and Jenny in the middle too.
A big hug with friends Ben, Jane (who was a red bellied snake) who was attending with her baby Jane inside, and Tandiss.
Ack, I missed out on getting a photo of the fabulous Fuschia, who came in sheets dressed up as "Manchester" (Linen shops here are all called "Manchester shops" for some strange reason).
Tandiss is showing her very creative thong skirt (not to be confused with the american version of the "thong") :c)
