Kona Crab, a common crab in Hawaii. Still though, check out his crazy eyes!
Yellow-spotted Coral Guard Crab. True to his name, this crab is usually found hiding in between the coral fingers.
Whitemouth Moray Eel. Best not to put your hand in that hole.
Arc-Eye Hawkfish like this guy tends to sit on coral most of the time. They seem like they are either very lazy or very smart fish.
Seems to be this one is from the Achilles Tang family.
This one definitely looks like a Tang too.
This Moorish Idol fish was made famous in its appearance in the movie "Finding Nemo"... where he was portrayed as a crochety old fish, with a slight twist of pirate.
This is a beautiful reflective shot of a triggerfish.
Fourspot Butterfly fish. There are lots of butterfly fish in Hawaii.
Take a deep breath... now get ready for the longest named fish you have ever heard of. This is the Humuhumu-nukunuku-a-pua'a. That's the hawaiian name for this Picasso Triggerfish anyways. It Hawaii's official state fish, partly because there was a song written about this fish due to its funny yet strangely melodic name.
Milletseed Butterfly fish.
This is a sea slug, also known as a nudibranch. These animals are usually so colourful, they are always a joy to find on a dive.
Nice octopus, though he doesn't look like he's having a good time being handled this way.
Here the octopus is trying to swim away, and the diver is stopping it by putting his hand against its head. Again, not good. I was not impressed the dive masters' handling of these beautiful creatures.
Boxfish, from the puffer family.
Another type (or gender) of the Boxfish.
The leaf scorpion fish here is tough to spot as it looks like a piece of coral or a leaf (hence the name of course) and is about 2-3 inches long.
The Devil Scorpionfish doesn't look like a fish who plays fair. I like to keep my distance from this highly venomous fish which blends magically well with its sandy surroundings.
This feels like the sea urchins of Hawaii are all dressed up and ready to go to an 80s neon party. Crazy !
Scarlet shrimp is a common cleaning shrimp that jumps into the mouths of other fish 10 times its size and cleans their teeth.
