Downtown Komarno, located near the south-western border of Slovakia adjacent to Hungary, is a beautiful sight. Who said Eastern Europe is boring, has never had the luck to see this cool town.
Every building in this town square was built based on the architectural style of a different country (and there is a plaque above the front door that tells you where it is from). Alas, I do not the origin of this design, but the roof has an amazing shape.
This one is outside of the town center but had such an interesting shape and material mix that I just had to include it.
The town's ampitheatre is a huge structure with mirror-like windows across the front side, reflecting the courtyard's lush yard.
Here I am with my friend Jeff improvising to an unknown play on stage.
While our audience of one (a friend's daughter) seems impressed enough to take a picture.
We decide to stop for a delicious dinner at the restaurant (building on the left) for a nice traditional Slovakian meal.
We went to this bar on our first night into town and perhaps another time or two. This is supposedly the bar where all the Slovakian Olympic Athletes hang out -- and we actually saw one rowing silver medal winner there one night. Good conversation fodder.
