A beautiful townhouse in Boston, a lovely red brick city (though at times, it certainly feels like a town!)
Here is a poor picture of a cool restaurant inside an old train station that my friend, Marty, found (he's also in the picture, though you can't see him very well either). He's standing in front an actual train car (is that what those are called?).
Boy, this is almost as American as it gets... just look at the "bows and ribbons" design on the rim above the front door, and above the windows. It's way too hoaky for me.
Ahh, the gates of Harvard in Boston. A beautiful campus, covered with red brick laden buildings, walls and gates.
Another colourful building part of the impressive Harvard collection. I believe that this was a church, but don't quote me on that!
Can we say intimidating??!!! Look at the size of this business library (compared to the student in the bottom left corner). Wow - monumental!
Here's a shot inside the library -- before they dragged me away (thought I was a spy -- hehe, just kidding!).
For those of you who remembered my mini-thesis on "Branding on the Internet" that I completed as part of my business program at Ivey in '99. They published a summary of my thesis in an issue of the "Ivey Journal". Why do I mention it now? Well, the Harvard business library carries the journal (in fact, it had a copy of the issue which contained my thesis). Did you hear that mom, I made it to Harvard! ;c)
Ok, thanks for your patience with my moment of glory.
Here's an old stock exchange ticker machine which tracked the progress of various stocks. Nice, eh?
Oh, and of course, everyone knows the hit TV series "Cheers" which was based (and perhaps even filmed) in a real bar named Cheers in Boston. Though this bar's inside is nothing like it is in the show (anymore? was it ever?).
Though you do have to go downstairs to get to it, as in the show.
I love delis. It's especially odd for a Canadian to see three neon cigarette ads in the window though. I wonder what their "smoked meat" tastes like.... booo!, ok I know, that WAS a bad one.
Ahh, and if you are in Boston, you might as well make a trip to the cheesy, but entertaining little town of Salem (which has a whole history of witches and magic).
There are also some interesting buildings to visit.
Oh, and here is a picture of some nice people taking away a witch... what a coincidence. It was the highlight of our trip. She was rather upset though, hmm. Anyway, this kerfuffle in the street was fun... Marty and I followed them, like good little tourists, to find a mock witch trial on (ah, now this coincidence thing is really starting to impress me!).
So, here is the judge in the trial. (He sort of looked like Yarema - for those who know him!)
And here is some more interesting American-style architectural dressings.
When I saw this, I couldn't believe it - it's a real (still live) U.S. Army Recruiting Office... wow, looks impressive... I thought they'd try to make it look a little more modern with Uncle Bush or George, instead of good ole Uncle Sam. Oh well, I guess there's something in consistency.
