Hawaii has got a lot of beautiful flora and trees as well.
This has got to be the most complicated leaf I have ever seen !
Another beautiful flower.
The trees were beautiful and reminded me of African Acacia Trees... which spread out horizontally as much as possible so that they absorb the maximum amount of sunlight.
Now, here's the kind of fruit I especially enjoy. Yum, a delicious pina colada served in a hollowed out pineapple with the ubiquitous umbrella and flower.
See... even the coffees have flowers in them in Hawaii.
This is traditional hawaiian food served at a Luau. You have a beef jerky piece, ambrosa salad (half salad, half desert), roasted pig, poke (marinated fish seasoned with sesame oil), chicken long rice (clear thick spagetti noodles with a chicken soup flavour), poi (a bland tasting purple taro paste) and a purple taro bun.
"Pupu Bar & Grill" means that they have all sorts of small appetizer dishes.
Ono Hawaiian Food is one of the top traditional hawaiian restaurants in Oahu. Their service is especially fantastic, with waiters taking the time to walk you through all the unique dishes in your meal.
Hawaiians also are generally good humoured and enjoy laughing often.
Here is the signature dish at Ono's. It is called "LauLau" and is basically chicken or pork covered in steamed taro leaves which is in turn covered in ti leaves, another local plant. Very tasty.
Leonard's is a popular local bakery which serves Masaladas.
A Masalada is a hawaiian donut with a cream filling. Tastes just like a normal donut. But Leonard's is highly reputed because they always serve them to you fresh and hot. Yum!
One of the big issues in Hawaii is that it is such an expensive place to live. Most residents have two jobs, very few women are stay at home moms, and hawaii has the lowest unemployment rates in the US. Hence, there are a lot of fancy signs and starting bonuses to help with the job search.
Nice to see that people care about the ocean here. I found this message on a few sidewalks.
This hula supply center also offered all sorts of great percussion instruments from various polynesian islands.
Haha, country music is the #1 selling music genre in the USA.
As you might have realized by now, I just love collecting photos of signs just to see how they have vizualized their message in the image.
I went in a music shop and was flabbergasted at all the music I could listen to. It was like an amazon.com experience in a store... available for 2/3rds of their albums. Fantastic!
