Hawaii Oahu's North Shore is the diving capital of the world... with massive waves and international surfing competitions visiting every Dec - March.
Lots of signs around warning swimmers/surfers about the dangers of the giant waves. What's worse is that below the water, Hawaii's shores are peppered by volcanic rock here and there underwater, so there is great risk in hurting yourself if you get caught in the surf.
More very adamant signs.
I was also happy to see that there were some signs promoting conservation of the marine life in Hawaiian waters.
Beautiful barrel waves !
Check out the scale difference between the surfers and the size of the wave. I felt much safer on shore watching these guys tackle the big waves.
Here is the life guard house on Sunset Beach. Look familiar? This is the same beach house (and beach for that matter!) used in BayWatch with Pamela Anderson.
A nice shadowy photo of the beach as the afternoon draws to a close.
Random photo of a surfer.
The tallest surfboard known to man kind !
And here's the oldest one documented while we're at it too.
Walking the coastline up towards Sunset Beach, you pass tons of beaches, nooks and crannies.
Lots of volcanic rock everywhere.
More rocks.
And on those many rocks, if you look real close, you can find little crabs scurrying about.
Sometimes as many as 3 or 4 on the same rock!
If you brought your bike, there's a gorgeous bike path along the coastline towards sunset beach.
Somehow I feel that no matter how many stickers they put on this sign, I'll still be able to know that it's a stop sign.
