Many of the very rich tombs were also guarded by a female and male lion statue. The male one is stepping on a ball. The female has her foot on a baby cub.
Dragon statues on top of tombs in the cemetery.
Best example of the cross between spanish and asian influence is here in the Chinese temple in the chinese cemetery, where there is a mixture of buddhist statues in the foreground alongside several catholic statues including a Jesus on a Cross and a statue of the Virgin Mary.
Heehee. I'm still trying to make sense of it. But it makes me laugh.
Now this is fast food !
Manila Baywalk along Roxas Blvd, great for people watching and sunset photos.
By the Mall of Asia in Manila, there is an amusement park area with a ferris wheel, etc. Fun area.
Great unique way to get kids to use up all their energy without causing too much trouble.
Beautiful green island views next to Donsol scuba spots.
Lots of really cool-looking dark caves around too!
Enjoyed checking out a lovely variety of colourful nudibranchs during the dives.
It's amazing how colourful the underwater world can be!
I ate like a queen when I was in the Philippines. This is a restaurant in Iloilo called Breakthrough Restaurant, famous for its seafood dishes. Yum!
Manila street food. Quail eggs in an orange batter dipped in a tasty vinegar and sweet pickled radish sauce.
This is what the food courts in shopping centers looked like. Look at all that yummy food on display! This is the Mall of Asia in Manila.
Small sweet and moist cupcakes called Puto. These two are purple yam (Ube) and green pandang flavour.
Photo taken at a Donsol food market.
This beer brand, San Miguel, is quite tasty and has pretty much cornered the beer market in the Philippines. You'll find it everywhere!
Pili nuts - One of my first food discoveries in the Philippines. Locally grown in Donsol (and generally the sorsogon), these are light and fluffy nuts which are delicious when lightly honey-roasted. Makes for an excellent light snack.
Talking about nuts, these seasoned peanut stalls were found both in Iloilo and Manila. Garlic flavoured roasted peanuts and Chili-flavoured ones too. Very tasty esp as they are often served warm and just roasted!
Banana ketchup ! How exciting. Didn't really see it served anywhere but saw it in the supermarket so I just had to bring a bottle home.
Geez, I think they need to work on their creativity a little.
Babies like me, eh? Hmmm....
People were mostly quite happy to get their photos taken in the Philippines. Filipinos generally seemed to be a happy lot, smiling easily, and often heard singing while they worked. It was inspiring !
